I have to admit to being delighted that I was fortunate to be taught how to sew at school, for many reasons. One of them is being able to create a dressing up outfit, all ready for the next school dress up day.
My daughter is determined to look exactly like the pirate on the invite to dress as a pirate on the 25th September. Coincidentally she happens to be ready to take part in International Talk Like a Pirate Day on September the 19th!!
Thankfully it has been a relatively easy and cheap job to create her pirate costumet. We started with the trousers, using her PJ bottoms as a template, and a former T Shirt of my husband.
I stretched the waistband out to get a the idea of width of fabric. ensuring I cut each leg so that one of the seams was on a fold of fabric, The jagged bottoms don’t need hemming as I have used jersey fabric:)
The hat is a square, tied with a knot either side, at her insistence a co-ordinating eye patch
I am delighted the invite from school states they “are friendly pirates so there is no need for swords to come to school”. If only all requests for fancy dress outfits were so easy!!!
