How to repair moth holes in a sweater

Its so frustrating when you discover a much loved sweater has moth holes – here’s my current choice for repairing moth holes in sweaters..

By using needle felt to cover moth holes you can add a unique zing to the original item. Choose colours which tone or compliment the original sweater. Or a huge variety of colours for those who love colour in their lives.

Select your felt, place on your sweater in desired shape. I have used circles or you could use a cookie cutter as a template for more fancy shapes.

Simply repeatedly stab at the felt with a needle felt tool, its amazing how quickly it attaches to the sweater.

I suggest hand washing for the repaired sweater.

What’s your favourite repair for moth holes?? I may be influenced by my desire to try needle felt!

I just did this with a favorite cashmere sweater that had multiple holes. I did various colored circles and it looks really good. Thanks so much for the suggestion and tips!

I have a very fine knit cashmere sweater where the moth hole is in an awkward place on the front to use the felting method. I'd be grateful of any other suggestions. Do you think I could use fabric glue on the underside to hold it together or an iron-on tape? H E L P !

I really like how it looks. I've seen the idea used on to mend holes on elbows, but I like this more. I love needlefelting. The most therapeutic craft that I do. Mine are usually 3d models, but I think I may have to dig out some old jumpers and find a reason to end them.

Lovely idea, very effective, and I'd use it if I could wear wool and had moth holes

Hi, I’ve used this as a repair on other fabrics too. Patterns on fabric alter/disappear slightly but it’s a fun & stable way to repair things. I’ve had some dubious results with stretch fabrics although I think it could be used as a feature so long as you know what happens. Test swatches really helped me.
