Thrifty ways to organise the sewing room..

Welcome to my sewing room, please stay and have a look around:)

I am extremely blessed to have a sewing room. When we first bought our home, it had a wonderful 1970’s orange and brown carpet. It was a bit of a nothing room, rarely used except for storage. At six months pregnant with a whole house to decorate it was not high on our priority list. However with my brothers help it gained several coats of white paint and a new carpet, prior to the baby arriving. A sofa bed was bought and it became a study/ spare bedroom.

STUDY

My fabric stash expanded, and, well expanded! It’s fair to say it drove my husband nuts.. one date night was spent brainstorming effective, thrifty, storage solutions – kitchen units are the answer!

So whats the room like now? What are my thrifty solutions?

kitchen units

Kitchen units – inside the fabric is stored in either types of fabric, or works in progress.

Jam jars – great for buttons, as well as my Gran’s old tins, you can never have too many buttons!!

Wicker laundry baskets are used for fabric – from a local 99p store

Fishing tackle box

A fishing tackle box for threads, little tupperware boxes are sued too for safety pins etc..

Recycled Denim baskets

Fabric storage baskets, thanks Pam for a great tutorial – these are perfect for bits and pieces!

scissor storage

Denim pockets for storing sharp scissors away from the tot:)

In the UK, no matter how good I am about taking bags to the store, I always end up with plastic bags. These are great for storing various projects.

What’s your favourite way of storing crafting supplies?

As usual I am off to check out fellow Handmade Harbour creative:)

One big thanks to my Mum for helping me tidy and sort (don’t ask when I started drafting this post, but the room was just not tidy enough to take pics!)

Looks wonderful. I love the fabric storage baskets and the demin pockets! I'd love a room like this but will definitely be taking some of your ideas as inspiration to help make my craft shelf tidier!

My eldest daughter would be very jealous of your sewing room - she has a sewing corner! I love the idea of the fishing tackle box for the threads - great idea and I may have to suggest the denim pockets to eldest daughter as a project as I reckon she could do that!

My mom got me started using the clear clamshells from produce. I can put a project in its own box and they are easy to find

Your room looks so neat and tidy...nice! I use lots of plastic bins for my fabric.
