As my children grow up I am reminded on a daily basis that I am now the parent of a tween. My understanding of this word is the pre teenager stage… As such it appears to involve being bored. This is a common complaint during the six weeks school holidays which have just started in our household. Yesterday morning I had a light bulb moment, why don’t we focus on a different theme each week for recycled crafts? Surely there are lots of ideas we can come up with aimed at the slightly older child. This week’s theme for recycled crafts for tweens focuses on pebbles.
Creative Ideas for Pebbles
Cactus from Salt and Pepper. No watering required, perfect for any tween to update their room. Super easy with no precise paint work required.
Rock Magnets – Wow, I love these rock magnets from Alisa Burke. Perfect for your tweens notice board.
Mandalas – the tutorial from Color Made Happy has a wonderful level of detail as to how to make your own mandalas. It’s full of hints and tips regarding the best pens to use. I have a stationary mad tween, she would snap any chance of new pens!
Photo holders by One Little Project – these are adorable, what tween could resist making these photo holders? Perfect for printing and keeping photographs of your summer holiday activities.
Plant holder – a tutorial from Centsational Girl is fabulous, it shows you how to create a mosaic look, successfully adhering tiles to the side of a bucket. I can see this technique working with plant pots.
Map paperweights – this project from 5ft inf appeals on a number of levels. It is visually appealing, but what’s more, it’s easy to do making it an accessible craft activity, plus your tween can have a visual reminder of the places you visit over the summer break.
Pebble Houses Plaque – This is my personal attempt to come up with a suitable recycled pebble idea. Paint the base of the houses with white chalk paint, once dry add the doors and windows. Once these are dry highlight them with a fine black pen. Prep a piece of wood, refresh with white paint and drill holes for the string. Adhere the houses to the wood with strong adhesive, thread your string and hang up.
Younger children may enjoy a dominoes set made from pebbles, story pebbles or how about pebbles painted as ladybirds for the garden?
