I love this bag – its different from any bag I have made or owned. Designed by Sarah Gido of Cosy Nest Designs, the Layla Bag can be worn over the shoulder or carried by its handles.
As usual with pattern testing for Sarah I learnt some new skills – on this occasion it was the way the lining was installed into the bag. You construct the outer bag first, sew the lining second before inserting the lining and attaching along the zip.
Her designs are incredibly well thought through, great for an intermediate sewer to have fun sewing.
I chose Amy Butler fabric that had been in my stash just waiting for the right project, hardware from a former charity shop bag and the handles were kindly supplied by Sarah.
Layla measures approx 14 1/2 W x 6 3/4 H (not incl. handles) x 3 1/2″D. Inside is a zip pocket plus the main closure uses a zipper too – everything is good and secure.
As usual Sarahs testers had a fun time, sewing this up with lots of banter and support for each other. I did struggle with making the bag as it came through just as the madness of the fun packed summer holidays started. The testers encouraged me along, I received some fabulous advice – just sew for 20 minutes each day. Before I knew it the bag was finished!
The testers created some amazing bags, I love seeing the same pattern made up in a huge variety of styles of fabric. You can see their bags here . You can find the pattern here on Craftsy and Janelle from Emmaline Bags is supplying the handles which you can find in her Etsy store.
