Dare I admit I made this year’s DIY Christmas cards in the summer?! Last year we sent about five cards, and the world didn’t end! But it didn’t feel quite right – this year we are sending a few more. The design is a quicker make – Christmas can become so hectic, I love sending handmade but at the same time wish to have the time to enjoy the season, not to feel stressed. I am sure you can relate.
The children and I had fun printing with bubble wrap tied around a rolling pin. You may remember I ran mini-series on crafting with tweens, one week we focussed on printing.
The bubble wrap rolling pin was layered up bluey green colour.
Once fully dry we added a subtle layer of silver poster paint, with the roller.
This created a subtle variety of colour and texture.
Next up to transform the large paper into Christmas cards – I found a stash of brown square cards from previous years. Liking the look of ripped paper edges I sharply folded the printed paper and carefully ripped to create squares.
Onto printing Happy Christmas – if you do this yourself remember to place your letters backwards on the stamp!
As you print you will see that the words print the correct way.
To finish a quick dab with a glue stick, lastly machine stitching around the edges to add the extra touch.
To be honest, I would prefer the words to be a little more prominent, but I have used what we have, had fun with my children and been organised, making ahead of time.
They don’t take long to make if you fancy having a go yourself. There’s still time, as long as you don’t have family as far as Hong Kong and Australia (I did manage to get ours in the post last week, whether they will arrive in time I am not sure..!)
