Do you spot clothes on others and think “I could make that?” I have been squeezing a little selfish sewing in, a red cord A line skirt with large patch pockets seemed the perfect addition to my wardrobe. As the basis for the skirt I used Pattern K6106, New Look from Dressmaker Magazine Make it today. Today I am going to share with you my pattern hack to create the large patch pockets.
The cord fabric is from Pound Fabrics their stock changes rapidly), the skirt is worn with the Freya top made with a grey knit purchased from Anglia Fashion Fabrics.

Patch Pocket Tutorial
Add the bottom panel to skirt at the cutting out stage.
To make the pockets cut out two pocket pieces 10 1/2 by 8 1/2”
Fold over 1/2” press, fold over a second time 1” and press. Stitch in place.
Zig zag the raw edges to stop them fraying.
Fold over the raw edges and press.
Place the pockets on the main front skirt piece. My pockets are placed at what appears a slight angle, an inch from the top, an inch from the edge. The bottom corner is 4 inches from the edge, measure to ensure your pocket are in identical paces.
Topstitch in place, ensuring you fasten securely at the top of the pockets.
If I make a version of this large patch pockets again I think I may place them slightly lower down from the waistband. Did you make yourself any new clothes for the Christmas season?
