Food for thought #blogfest15

Not many things motivate me to set the alarm before 6am – yesterday I manage to crawl out of of bed before the children woke me up!  I attended a blogging conference hosted by Mumsnet.

I booked, drawn by the speaker list. Somehow I missed Margaret Atwood on the list, so it was a lovely surprise to see her video linked in from Canada, dressed in gloves and scarf – it transpired it was 4:40am for her.

The first session Motherhood and Creativity was extremely thought provoking. Does becoming a mother release creativity within us?

“gained in creativity what I have lost in time” Meera Syal

“loss of sense of self in the early day’s” “writing gives a sense of self”

The panel covered issues such as good childcare, the ability to plan, compartmentalise and the ability to “learn to be creative to fit your hours”. As someone who has had periods of nurturing my creativity and periods of ignoring it, I know I am a more rounded person when I look after all of me. The items/projects I create may not be as original as other periods in my life but I have found a way of being creative in the hours I have, in a way which feeds me.

Wise words from Margaret “While motherhood is challenging, it will fly by! So enjoy it before you become a granny!”

Margaret Atwood

Other interesting sessions including marketting for bloggers, what can be learnt from buzz feed, the public stories of our private lives.

The day was stimulating, thought provoking and validating. Thank you so much to all the speakers, and the friendly bloggers:)

“Creativity is a slap in the face to those who oppress us, it defeats them and is the road to revolution” Val McDermid

The biggest thanks must go to my husband who supports me and enables me to invest time in my creative hobby:) Feeling blessed,

dropped by to say "hi" from Handmade Monday, lucky you watching the Margaret Atwood link up, I'd love to have listened to her speak. She's totally right too about enjoying being a parent before you're a Grandma - it happened to me last year and though being a 'Glam-ma' is wonderful I'd give anything for just five minutes with my own three small and sat on my knee again. Have a great week - Chris

I've always been creative but my daughter didn't have a 'creative side' until she had a child. Now she takes the lead in trying out new things, I certainly think motherhood can have that creative influence on us. It sounds like it was an interesting event..... even if you did have to get up at silly o'clock :)
